How It Works
Phase 1: Submit your challenge statement! (Feb 20 - Mar 5)
Share your 50 word challenge statement. Let's generate conversation, get people to comment and vote - help everyone to understand why YOUR challenge statement is meaningful and impactful for Calgary!
Phase 2: Rate the Challenges (Mar 5 - 16)
In partnership with the Smart City Community Team, The City of Calgary will review all the amazing challenge statements submitted. Through looking at the votes received and conversations generated and previous engagement and research gathered, the Community Team will develop a single challenge statement based on the amazing work the public has submitted.
Check out the summary of Phase 1 & 2 submissions here.
Phase 3: Share your Ideas! (Mar 19 - Apr 2)
Based on the new challenge statement - now is the time to share your big, smart, ambitious ideas on how to make it a reality. Use your creative thinking, inclusive spirit and bold “out of the box” solutions to put this vision into action.
Phase 4: Application submitted! (Apr 24)
About Canada's Smart Cities Challenge
The Smart Cities Challenge is a competition open to all municipalities, local or regional governments, and Indigenous communities across Canada. This Challenge will empower communities across the country to address local issues their residents face through new partnerships, using a smart cities approach. A smart cities approach means achieving meaningful outcomes for residents through the use of data and connected technology. This approach can be adopted by any community, big or small. Finalists will receive support to develop their smart cities proposals. Winning communities will be awarded with prize money (up to $50 million) to help implement them.
About Calgary's Submission
We are asking Calgarians to help create Calgary’s submission to win the Smart Cties Challenge by identifying an important local issue and helping solve it using technology and data.
Through extensive engagement and citizen feedback, economic opportunity and empowerment and inclusion have arisen as priority challenges that will benefit from our community's focused energy and support through smart solutions.
