Become Canadian leaders in dementia care

Create dementia villages with services, amenities and environments that provide an alternative to hospitalization or institutionalization and provides full scope of support and care for all vulnerable dementia patients and their families. Nobody should suffer from dementia without the benefit of a caring community. Calgary can become a leader in giving people with dementia the dignity they deserve.

Simple public amenities

There are lots of big ideas out there, but when it comes to having a good life in the city, it starts with the little everyday things that make it easier and more comfortable to be out and about in the city. You know what I'm talking about: we desperately need more public bathrooms scattered about Calgary's parks and public spaces, and we need more of them to be open year-round. (More trash and recycling bins would be ...more »

Blockchain

I believe that the City of Calgary could best develop a proposal for Smart City funding if it were to commit to developing capabilities for the development and deployment (the tough part) of blockchain technologies. This is not about one particular project per se, but rather a commitment to build upon the City's current capabilities in blockchain and create highly visable, highly valuable, cost-effective projects that ...more »

BUILDING A HEALTHIER FUTURE OF OPPORTUNITIES

Every year the dream of hundreds of kids get frustrated by not having a chance to follow their passion and become a doctor in the city of Calgary. With limited spaces in the university, students are being discouraged even if they follow all the recommendations (volunteer hours, job related, academic excellence) As the city grows the demand for professional care does too. However, the school of medicine has not grown at ...more »

A smart city is a safe city

At Genetec, we are committed to increasing public safety and collaboration inside cities and communities and believe that, in order to create and maintain thriving public spaces, groups, including urban planners, city managers, security experts, enterprise executives, and community leaders, must work together to achieve true public safety. Building a resilient and diversified economic powerhouse

We will build Calgary into an economic powerhouse by providing infrastructural support and tax rebates for the first five years to businesses that invest in setting up technology, agricultural, and manufacturing companies. Additional tax rebates for companies that export 50% of their goods and services to other countries. This will ensure that Calgary becomes a more diversified and resilient economy that can provide ...more »

Temperature, Wind and Pollution Modelling and Monitoring Grid

Establish a city-wide network of sensors that continuously report wind, temperature, humidity, pressure and pollution (CO2, CO, N2S, O3) levels to a public data archive. Hundreds of these sensors would be installed across all city neighbourhoods and at various heights downtown to create a public, live and historic 24x7x365 super-density 3D model of Calgary's environment and climate.

Calgary Smart Energy Grid Netowrk

Calgary when looking to become a smart city needs to look at creating a network that can help us manage city systems and help deliver power and other services to the population. This network would need to be secure and run outside the regular consumer internet network.

Citizen Polling

Develop a polling system, using blockchain technology, to actively poll citizens on hot topics. This idea could be integrated into council meetings and would be split up by ward, giving greater refinement of requirements to communities. By using blockchain technology the votes would be anonymous and transparent, open to all for data analytics.

Street Parking

No matter the season, street parking can be a major pain, particularly to those who live in apartments or houses on those streets. In February alone, we had two snow route parking bans that resulted in nearly 5,000 parking tickets being issued. The only reason I knew about the ban is that I happened to be listening to the radio. Street parking can also be an issue in the spring when the city is doing street cleaning. ...more »
