Open Communication within Homelessness Sector

Accessing the right services, at the right time, is necessary to end homelessness. Sharing basic client information among the homeless serving agencies in Calgary will allow us to better serve the most vulnerable of individuals, stop clients from having to retell their story and prevent delays in service.

What will change for Calgarians if we solve this problem? (Measurable)

Sharing information between organizations serving the same individual can help increase the continuity of care that individual receives, reducing the number of times they have to reiterate their needs and decreasing the possibility that they will experience negative outcomes because of a lack of coordination.

How could we make it happen with technology or data? (Attainable)

Recognizing the need to strike a balance between access to information for the benefit of clients and clients’ right to privacy, we are looking to technical innovation to develop recommendations of data types and unique identifiers for data sharing between sectors and agencies, where clients extend permission.
