Hydrogen+NG blended fuel for transit vehicles/trucks etc trending idea Edited

Hi,

The city has a growing compressed natural gas transit fleet. I would like to propose using hydrogen blended natural gas fuel for the city transit fleets (city buses) and city vehicles. Prior to the full-scale deployment of this idea, a pilot-scale project would be required to determine and collect the data.

Hydrogen can be transported in existing natural gas pipelines by blending it with natural gas (between 5 and... more »

Small Modular Nuclear Reactor for Electricity, Heat and Hydrogen trending idea Edited

Hi,

This idea is to eliminate all greenhouse gas associated with electricity production in Calgary. Small modular nuclear reactors (SMR) are being commercialized in Canada. SMR can be deployed near the city to generate the electricity required by the city. A couple of SMR will be sufficient to meet the Calgary supply demand. Residual SMR heat can be used to emission-free hydrogen utilizing a novel technology (Cu-Cl method)... more »

Geothermal energy for snow cleanup, heat and electricity Edited

It is a solution for Calgary city's snow. The idea is to use geothermal heat to melt the snow into the water before releasing it into the bow river. If the city pays for the CAPEX, a private operator can run the service for a fee to the city.

When it is not snowing and on summer days, the geothermal heat can be used to generate power that will be sold to the grid.

Retrofitting garbage trucks to dual fuel hydrogen-diesel

Retrofitting existing fleets of garbage trucks' internal combustion engines (ICE) to use hydrogen and diesel as fuel. This will bring up to 40% reduction in CO2 emissions. Converting a fleet of 100 trucks to hydrogen dual-fuel deliver about 2600 tonnes less CO2, 40% less NOx, and save about one million liters of diesel per year.
