Calgary is perceived by many as a boring, business, conservative town. A city where there’s no much to do. However, Cowtown has one of the most educated, multicultural and friendly populace in Canada, and it is surrounded by stunning natural spaces. Establish a city-wide network of sensors that continuously report wind, temperature, humidity, pressure and pollution (CO2, CO, N2S, O3) levels to a public data archive. Hundreds of these sensors would be installed across all city neighbourhoods and at various heights downtown to create a public, live and historic 24x7x365 super-density 3D model of Calgary's environment and climate.
Calgary when looking to become a smart city needs to look at creating a network that can help us manage city systems and help deliver power and other services to the population. This network would need to be secure and run outside the regular consumer internet network.
Our City will enable all actors to prosper and participate in the digital economy by integrating processes and municipal assets into the smart city planning processes. Designated zones for living labs will accelerate innovation and market development stimulating the local economy. Calgary will be a 5G ready city by 2020.
